Mental health is just as important as physical health and should be treated with equal importance. Mental health conditions can affect anyone, regardless of age, gender, race, or socioeconomic status

Self-care can consist of many things. Together, we can say no, take a step back, forgive ourselves, set boundaries, ask for help, put ourselves first, spend time alone, and ask what we need. There is a balance in anyone’s life, which entails balancing their physical, mental, and social well-being.

The state of your mental health comprises of how you think, feel, and, most importantly, how you act. Therefore, it is always beneficial to express how you feel. One of the most challenging but essential parts of healing and maintaining your mental health is talking about things you want to keep hidden. In safe spaces it is can be a relief to get it out in the air. Talking about your traumas is not always comfortable, but like with your physical body, a wound needs air to heal.

-Resilience is the ability to recover from something challenging quickly. We celebrate you for overcoming all the obstacles you’ve faced in the past, and we are here to support you and provide resources when you are enduring challenging life circumstances that you may not feel you will be able to overcome.

You are the only person who can define you. No one will be able to understand yourself better than you. This means that you owe the sole proprietorship of your life. We can own our journey regardless of whatever situation we are going through. We are here to support you, to help you amend your narrative and make your story your own.

We’ve seen more conversations about our physical health and wellness in contemporary times. Mental Health conversations were not commonly a part of this discourse, but now this is changing, and support and treatment for mental health are becoming normalized. We don’t want this to stop – we want to see the non-stop inclusion of mental health as part of all conversations surrounding healthcare and well-being.

There is a saying in Akan that “Someone who pursues good deserves the proper support of everyone.” We continue to grow from our mistakes, failures, hard times, tragic moments, and we thrive on being the best version of ourselves. Our journey has just started, and we will succeed no matter the circumstances that befall.

My idea of helping people is to be able to provide everything they need through mentorship and guidance. I always love to be part of conversation that would impact not just myself but also the entire community.

Winnifred Koduah

As a graduate of both Sociology and Women and Gender studies, mental illness is a subject that’s very close to my heart. Mental illness is unstudied in our communities especially our Ghanaian community. Having struggled with it myself, I now join this great team in finding ways to provide resources and help to others who may be struggling too. TOGETHER we can make a change in the world

Growing up I witnessed family, friends, and church members struggle to get the help they needed and as a child there wasn’t much I could do to help. I felt helpless. That is a feeling I wish to alleviate from others. I want others to see that if they believe in themselves and God on their side, there’s practically nothing they cannot overcome. It brings me great joy knowing I get a blessing out of blessing others. I have my Bachelor of Science in Information Systems Management and work at Splunk as a Security Engineer.

My motivation to extend a helping hand is powered by the mere blessing people have so graciously extended to me. I always say to myself, “It doesn’t take much to be kind”. Just saying hello and asking about someone’s day can turn things around for the person. Being kind and considerate, being human and humble; these are the traits that I want to pass down to those in my life and those to come.
